About our AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Due to the extended distance from medical care, the Pickerel Lake District approved the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in 2018. An AED is a portable electronic device that diagnoses a heartbeat. AEDs have simple audio and visual instructions and can be used by anyone with minimal training, in conjunction with CPR, until the arrival of a first responder. While not all cardiac conditions can be treated using an AED, if a person experiencing cardiac arrest has a condition where it can be used within 5-6 minutes of onset, the AED can significantly improve the likelihood of survival.
How did we get one?
The Pickerel Lake District voted in 2017 to approve using District funds to purchase an AED. It was purchased and installed in 2018 with the help of our neighbor on Teal Lake, John Carter and others. John is a retired firefighter and was able to get a great price on it thru his old channels.
How do I use it?
It is actually pretty self-explanatory once you've had minimal training. For training, the American Heart Association and Red Cross both offer courses, often at community colleges or or similar venues. Locally we may also offer teaching sessions. AED Equipment:
The AED in the Pickerel Lake Aeration shed has the following equipment:

An Automated External Defibrillator (in a container with a handle)

Set of Adult electronic pads in the container and already connected to the AED

Set of Pediatric pads in a separate box next to the AED.
When the AED is removed, an alarm sounds that can be disregarded in emergencies.
When you need the AED:
1. Call 9-1-1 to get an ambulance on the way.
2. Begin CPR. If you do not know CPR, the 9-1-1 operator is trained to guide you.
3. Send someone to get the AED. Continue CPR until it arrives.

AED LOCATION: The AED is kept on the exterior of the Aeration Shed on Kingfisher Lane, a private drive off of Pickerel Lake Road near N8846 Pickerel Lake Rd.
